About Sam
Hi! I'm Sam.
When I'm not clicking away on my laptop writing wedding ceremonies, you'll find me telling Alexa to play Abba songs, reading 3 books at the same time (sometimes finishing them), and trying to work out at least once a week. :) Fact: I'd rather read than work out.
I was a bookworm as a kid. I trekked to the libary weekly and I would leave with at least 10 books. I wrote stories, wore glasses with lenses as thick as a coke bottle (old expression) and I landed first runner-up in the school spelling bee. 🤓
I've always been drawn to the creative side, and worked for years in retail at an upscale department store chain in the Midwest in visual merchadising: I traveled to New York and Chicago for trade shows, and I could spill the buzz on the hottest runway trends. I once even met Aretha Frankin who shopped where I worked in metro Detroit!
The years flew by until I found myself drawn to ministry at 30 years old. I entered seminary, pastored a church, and wrote sermons that were grounded in story-telling. All of Scripture was a story. The people that called me 'Pastor Sam' had a story. Every person mattered. This season of ministry took new shape when I became a hospice chaplain, and realized again that each of my patients had a life story. And, at the end of the day, life is a love story in one way or another.
I officiated several ceremonies in my years of ministry and then in 2016 I started Weddings by Sam, with the heartbeat of my ceremony being about each couple's love story. I started with a handful of weddings, and 700+ love stories later, here I am today! It was a gamechanger. The goal was no dull ceremonies.
Instead, each love story deserved to be shared. Guests would often say, "Wow! We've never been to a wedding like this one before." And that's still the goal, now. No boring ceremonies.
Only your story, without ever forgetting that romance rules. And that includes every walk of life: All beliefs. All couples. Because life is a love story and I want to tell yours...
